Jair Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a definite escape threat while under house arrest.

The one-time leader was sentenced of orchestrating a military coup in last fall and given more than a 27-year term in jail, but he was staying under house arrest pending appeals.

High Court Judge the presiding justice said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after recent developments were revealed.

This involved trying to remove his electronic bracelet and a summons to a supporters' gathering that could enable a possible escape.
