Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, demons, and dark forces growing in power within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of heroes who will split off from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

With an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might appear unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

First, the group understands precisely where to go next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his debts and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the group enter places they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The healer defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to travel to the remote area in search of the traitor.

What’s Next?

Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Questers and Planners groups.

Audiences can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
