Recent Refinery Strike Reveals 'No Safe Locations in the Russian Far Hinterland'

Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles have targeted Russia's Bashneft refinery in Ufa, positioned some 1,400 kilometers from Ukraine, triggering detonations and a fire, per a source in Ukraine's SBU.

Zelenskyy Urges US President to Mediate Peace in the Conflict

Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the US President to broker peace in Ukraine during a telephone conversation on Saturday.

Energy Recovery Operations in the Capital

Operations continued on Saturday to restore power in Kyiv, after strikes by Moscow.

Power had been recovered to over 800,000 citizens by the weekend and the largest private energy company announced the key efforts to repair the grid was complete though partial blackouts persisted.

Air Defence Operations and UAV Downings

Ukraine's anti-aircraft systems neutralized fifty-four of 78 UAVs from Russia sent against Ukraine overnight, the aerial defense command announced on Saturday.

Russia's defense officials said it intercepted forty-two UAVs from Ukraine over Russian territory.

Cuban Government Denies Claims of Deploying Forces to Ukraine

Cuba on Saturday denied US allegations it has deployed troops to participate in the conflict in Ukraine, while affirming officials in Havana "are without precise data about citizens of Cuba" participating "on their own" or "as part of the armed units of both sides".

The government department in Havana said twenty-six Cuban citizens had been given prison terms to incarceration ranging from 5 to 14 years for mercenary involvement since September 2023 when information circulated of Cuban nationals being dispatched to the battlefield in Ukraine.

The surrender initiative, a Ukrainian government initiative that urges opposing fighters to surrender, said in May: "We reliably know the personal data of over a thousand individuals who enlisted with the Moscow's troops in the past two years."

The Cuban authorities commented of Cubans who might be engaged: "There is no doubt that no individual has the backing, allegiance, or authorization of the government in Havana for their involvement."
