The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Selected the Wrong Popular RPG Show Track

This latest animated series, the newest animated series from Critical Role, revealed an exciting opening credits. It showcases our favorite cast of misfits, outcasts, and criminals kicking ass and taking names, while also hinting at multiple agonizing personal histories for characters such as Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

All in all, the intro looks stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was missing in the music selection.

This sequence employs "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar song composed by artist the talented musician. This piece from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release released by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful sentimental choice, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.

Personally, The series' opening doesn't quite capture the hype and energy that accompanied the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit for me when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when co-founder the performer wrote words to the tune for the series' animated intro in the later year.

Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the track was memorable and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't even watched the second campaign at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. It's a song that excites you before you dive into an episode of adventurous fun.

The show's intro with "the new song" doesn't strike the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but based on my understanding of the group, I can't help but feel that its mood is a little off.

Of course, the creators has already said that the animated show will have a few changes and variations from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its opening appears as one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be released on Prime Video from Nov. 19. For those eager before that, or wish to prepare to get to know the characters of the second series, the actual play are accessible on Spotify and the video site.
