Although not quite at the equivalent scale as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven. Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood. “This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a current administration. “Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.” The event, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House. The animal, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The trend became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year. A Peaceful Retirement The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release. “This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to open the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message. “It embodies the essence of Miami: happy, diverse, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Every time, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.” Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
