The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that his new science-fiction series would become a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” he remarks. “I was surprised by the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.” With the first season of the popular program coming to an end—and the next chapter already in development—the writers' room opened up about the audience reaction and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus. About the Incredible Fan Response Anyone might to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to avoid both. “It feels like an endless supply of something incredibly sweet and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's intentional. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.” Despite trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show. “We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by online forums.” “It's wiser to keep our noses to the grindstone,” he chimes in. A Pressing Query: Will Vince Gilligan See the Ending of Pluribus? Given that the writers aren't taking cues by public opinion, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? In short yes… in a way. “There are some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “however, we remain prepared to throw out a solid concept for a better idea. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.” Alternatively, if they hit a wall, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on. “My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.” Of course, why mess with the classics? “My dream is Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling. Pluribus can be watched on the streaming service.
